What is E-Z POOL®?
E-Z POOL® is a proprietary, multi-function granular compound that simplifies swimming pool water care. It combines an algaecide, stable oxidizer, clarifier, scale inhibitor, and balancing agents – all in ONE product! The convenient, once-a-week application takes only minutes to keep your swimming pool water clean, clear and trouble-free. E-Z POOL® is compatible with salt, chlorine, bromine, ozone and UV systems. Simple pool water care… just once-a-week!
-
Does the E-Z POOL® work against the black algae?
This is a relative question. If it is black algae (as opposed to liner mold or oxidized manganese) then yes, E-Z POOL® continuously bombards present algae until it is killed and dissipates. That’s the great thing about having such a strong (triple action!) algaecide blended in to it. Black algae typically forms in older cement/marcite/gunite pools that have started to deteriorate. Black algae is hard to remove because it has roots that get in to porous surfaces and a hard shell that protects the main body from chlorine and typical algaecides. E-Z POOL® has a chemical in it that destroys the shell and the algaecide which kills the body and then the roots.
-
What is the shelf life of E-Z POOL®?
At least two years. It’s best to keep it dry and avoid condensation. If it gets hard, it’s still as effective just harder to work with.
-
Does E-Z POOL® or Revive!® have copper or any other metals in it?
Revive!® does not contain any metals, in fact, it removes metals from water. E-Z POOL® utilizes copper sulfate as its algaecide which represents 1.6% of the total compounds blended in the product.

E-Z POOL® 3-Step Startup?
1. Test & Revive!®
Take a water sample to your Authorized Dealer for testing. Treat pool water with Revive!® (32 oz. up to 24,000 gallons) to remove phosphates, metals, debris and to activate the No Algae Guaranteed.
NOTE: If algae is present, brush from walls then shock with chlorine. Wait 24 hours, then proceed.
2. Vacuum, Clean Filter & Balance
Once debris completely settles (typically 24 hours), vacuum pool bottom, thoroughly clean pool filter, then balance pool water as follows:
Calcium Hardness 350 ppm
pH 7.2-7.6
Total Alkalinity 80-120 ppm3. E-Z DAY
Add E-Z POOL® to pool water according to dosage chart, preferably near a return jet, and add sanitizer in accordance with product directions to skimmer, feeder or floater to maintain desired level.
Weekly: REPEAT E-Z DAY…Just once-a-week!
Monthly: Take a water sample to your Authorized Dealer for testing.
-
Should I shock once a week with E-Z POOL® or less often?
There is no need to shock your pool with E-Z POOL®. Utilize a chlorine tab per 10k gallons weekly instead. This will keep copper stains from forming. Once the staining is gone, treat the pool with Revive!® and the copper will be captured to be vacuumed or filtered out depending on your filtration system.
-
Is it recommended to keep chlorine tabs in the baskets at all times or only use chlorine tabs once a week?
Just add at least one chlorine tab to the skimmer per 10k gallons weekly.
-
Should I add E-Z POOL® before, or right after adding my weekly chlorine shock?
E-Z POOL® should be used in conjunction with chlorine tablets and can be added at any time.
-
Does E-Z-Pool replace chlorine or do use it in conjunction with chlorine?
E-Z POOL® is not a replacement for chlorine and should be used with a sanitizer for a complete water care program. However you will find that you will use less chlorine on the E-Z POOL® program. Our startup and maintenance instructions are available below and on our website here
-
My pool requires 3 scoops of E-Z POOL® a week. We put in 1 scoop this morning and got distracted so the other 2 scoops will go in this afternoon. Is splitting up the scoops a problem? It was 1 week ago today that I put the first set of scoops in. How long should the filter run after putting E-Z POOL® in?
It’s best to put all scoops in at the same time, if there happens to be a couple hours in between, it will still be as effective; don’t go days in between though. For best results, APi recommends at least 4-6 hours of filter run-time after treatment.
-
On weeks when the pool is in relatively little use, can I skip or cut back on the amount of E-Z POOL® ?
At the beginning of the season, until the water reaches 75 degrees, you can use a scoop less, but once the pool warms up, use the usual amount, even if it is covered.
-
How many scoops are in a pound of your E-Z POOL® product. I have a 26,000 gallon oval pool which is only opened 17 weeks and I am purchasing my chemicals for the season now. I use chlorine tabs for a sanitizer. How many pounds do I need to purchase for the season? Also because of bird and tree issues generally sprinkle 4 to 8 Oz’s on granular chlorine most days to remove stains from pool surfaces. Will this interfere with how your product works or its effectiveness?
We are very glad that you are switching to our E-Z POOL® product! Each bucket of E-Z POOL® comes with an 8 oz scoop, therefore there are approximately 2 scoops in a pound. Please refer to our usage chart on our website at: www.apiwater.com/products/pool/e-z-pool then click the Usage & Guidelines tab. For a 26,000 gallon oval pool you will need approximately 6 scoops per week = 3 lbs, therefore if you have your pool open for 17 weeks then you will need approximately 51 lbs. In addition, you can use E-Z POOL® to close your pool for the winter, please see our winterizing directions on our website at: www.apiwater.com/pool_ez_pool_winterizing.aspx For your pool, you will need 15 scoops (7.5 lbs) for closing. Therefore, 60 lbs of E-Z POOL® should cover everything. You can purchase E-Z POOL® in 5 lb, 10 lb, and 20 lb buckets. Also, don’t forget to use our product Revive!® when opening your pool. Before starting E-Z POOL®, treat pool water with Revive!® (32 oz up to 24,000 gallons) to remove phosphates, metals, debris and to activate E-Z POOL®’s No Algae Guaranteed. To answer your other question, chlorine is totally compatible with E-Z POOL®, therefore it will not interfere with the effectiveness of E-Z POOL®. In fact, you may not even need to add the additional 4 to 8 ounces of granular chlorine to remove stains from pool surfaces when using E-Z POOL®. Therefore, I would suggest using just E-Z POOL® and see how well it works without the additional granular chlorine.

I was wondering if it mattered whether or not E-Z POOL® is dissolved in water prior to adding to the pool? I think the package says that it can be added directly, but I wanted to know if it decreased the effectiveness at all if I chose to dissolve in a bucket of water first?
As for the application itself, in order for E-Z POOL® to work effectively, (among other things) it must be dissolved into solution of your pool water. We recommend adding it directly to your pool water, near a return jet. This will ensure its dispersion throughout the pool and allow it to dissolve into solution. You can also dissolve into a bucket prior to adding it to the swimming pool; it will work equally as effectively. To do this, we recommend adding E-Z POOL® to a clean, dry bucket, then submerging the bucket into the pool, filling it with water. It’s important to add E-Z POOL® to a DRY bucket that has NOT been applied for other uses. Once dissolved, dump bucket contents into the deep end of your pool. Regardless of how you choose to dose your swimming pool with your weekly E-Z POOL® application, provided it is dissolved properly into solution, E-Z POOL® should maintain your balance ranges while providing clean, clear water. We’re so happy to hear your experience with us has been pleasurable, and we look forward to continuing to provide quality products!

I don’t understand how I test my pool to make sure there is enough of your product in the water.
You can test for E-Z POOL® with any standard 5-Way test strip. E-Z POOL® will show up as Total Chlorine/Total Oxidizer anything .5ppm or higher will indicate sufficient E-Z POOL® in the water. You should have no problems with E-Z POOL® as long as you add the recommend weekly dosage. We do recommend that you bring a water sample monthly into your E-Z POOL® dealer.
-
I was wondering after putting E-Z POOL® product in my pool, how long afterwards can we start to swim?
You can swim immediately after dosing your pool with E-Z POOL®; there is no wait time required, but we suggest circulating for 60 minutes prior to swimming.

Testing Questions
-
How do I make sure there is an effective residual amount of E-Z POOL®? Is there a test for it?
Use a test strip that checks for Total Chlorine (TC). This actually tests for all the oxidizer in the water, whether chlorine or not, and E-Z POOL® will show up on the TC test. Your reading should be between 1-3 Total Chlorine and under .5 of Free Chlorine, for an E-Z POOL® pool, this is normal. If the reading is higher than 3, cut back on a scoop for a couple weeks; if it is below 1 then add an extra scoop for a couple weeks.
-
Do we use just use the normal testing kits?
The normal test strips will work but the best thing to do will be bringing a water sample to your local dealer so the dealer can test this in the store.
-
On the E-Z POOL® buckets reference to E-Z POOL® 4 in 1 Test Strips. The local dealers do not seem to have these. Are there actually such strips and, if so, where can I buy them?
Your E-Z POOL® dealer likely has another brand of test strips available – be sure they can test the following:
- pH
- Total Alkalinity
- Calcium Hardness
- Total Chlorine
-
On the side of E-Z POOL® it says that a test strip can test for oxidation and bromine, is there a certain type of test strip for this?
APi had test strips at one time, now we recommend any test strips that check total chlorine and calcium hardness (aqua check 7 or Lamotte Insta-Test 5 Plus)
-
Can I use my baquacil test strips to test my pool now that I’ve switched to E-Z POOL®? They test pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness.
It’s best to use 5-way test strips, this will test for:
- Free Chlorine: this doesn’t matter for E-Z POOL®
- Total Chlorine: this test for E-Z POOL® and should be kept between .5 to 5ppm
- Total Alkalinity: which should be 80-120ppm for E-Z POOL®
- Calcium Hardness: which should be a minimum of 350 for E-Z POOL®
- pH: which should be between 7.2 to 7.8 for E-Z POOL® We recommend testing only monthly after initial balance of pool water.

Winterizing Questions
-
How much E-Z POOL® should I use to winterize/close my pool?
1lb (2 scoops) per 5,000 gallons.
-
Before using E-Z POOL® to winterize, what if the pool water is severely out of balance? Do I need to add extra chlorine?
The winterizing dose will allow you to close the pool without a great amount, if any, of pre-balancing. If the balance is so out of whack that you are unable to close it traditionally, you wouldn’t use E-Z POOL® either. Under normal circumstances; clear and algae free, pH 7.2-7.8, TA 80-120ppm, CH 200-400, (stabilizer is irrelevant) it will work without any balance changes. You only need to add extra chlorine if algae is present.
-
If I purchase a 20 lb bucket of E-Z POOL® and use what I need to close my pool, will the remaining E-Z POOL® keep through the winter?
Yes, just keep the E-Z POOL® from getting wet and store in a cool, dry location.
-
I leave my pool running through the winter. Do I need to change the dosage of E-Z POOL®?
Cooler Water E-Z POOL® Dosage: Below 70 degrees = apply every 2 weeks Below 60 degrees = apply every 3-4 weeks

No Algae Guaranteed Questions
-
We were told by our pool dealer that we had to buy Revive!® in order for E-Z POOL®'s No Algae Guaranteed to be honored. Is that correct? Also is this Revive!® a product that we have to use or can use in conjunction with E-Z POOL® concentrated pool product.
Yes, Revive!® is required to activate the E-Z POOL® No Algae Guaranteed. Revive!® will remove phosphates (algae food), metals and other debris in the water. While not required, some pool owners choose to use a regular maintenance dose of Revive!® with E-Z POOL®.

Salt Pool Questions
-
I have an Aquarite chlorine generator on a 28K gallon in-ground pool. Your in-ground pool chart says to add 6 scoops of EZ Pool per week, but another chart says 3 scoops for salt water pools. Is 3 scoops enough for my pool? Why is that? Will it be as effective in keeping my pool balanced?
You are correct in noticing that E-Z POOL® dosage is different for a pool assisted with a chlorine generator; that’s why you saw two different charts. A typical 28k gallon in-ground pool would need 6 scoops, while a pool with a chlorine generator needs only 3. So yes, 3 scoops of E-Z POOL® is what you should be adding weekly. The dosage requirement is less with chlorine generators because the salt/chlorine is doing a lot of the maintenance “work” so-to-speak. See, your generator works to maintain chlorine in the pool – but that’s only half the battle. Chlorine will not maintain the balance ranges and would otherwise still require regular balance adjustments. E-Z POOL® is a great fit because it does maintain water balance, and additionally oxidizes contaminants and prevents algae when used as directed. In essence, the generator provides the sanitizing power and E-Z POOL® provides the balancing act. Together, you get clean, clear, balanced water with a simple weekly regimen. Of course, you should still test your water on a regular basis, as anything from heat to rain can affect the balance, but yes, as a maintenance program E-Z POOL® will definitely help you maintain all the proper levels.
-
Can E-Z POOL® be used effectively with a pool that has a salt water system and a vinyl liner?
E-Z POOL® is compatible with chlorine generator/salt systems. In fact, E-Z POOL® can actually contribute to the longevity of the cell by inhibiting scale, corrosion and impurities. E-Z POOL® will do all the great things it does in a traditional pool – maintain proper balance ranges, actively prevent algae growth, etc. – in a chlorine generator/salt system pool. E-Z POOL® will also optimize chlorine use, maximizing effectiveness, and keeping pool water crystal clear all season long. Please consult an Authorized Dealer for E-Z POOL® start-up instructions. For reference, please see chart below indicating the usage parameters for E-Z POOL® in conjunction with a salt system.

UV Pool Questions
-
We are doing a conversion from standard to E-Z POOL® chemicals. The water has been balanced with your protocol: 350/7.6/110. Leslie’s said no chlorine (0) in the pool. So we have a balanced pool, but no chlorine.
- We’ve added a UV which we have had for 2 weeks now and the pool is clearer.
- We are ready to put the Revive!® in the pool. But wanted to hear from you about what t do with the chlorine level since we now have the UV system.
At this time, go ahead and apply Revive!® and balance water according to E-Z POOL® parameters. Since your pool is now equipped with a UV system we recommend only one 3″ chlorine tab per 15,000 weekly along with your scoops of E-Z POOL®. The benefits of E-Z POOL® along with your UV system is that you will have low to no chlorine residual for testing purposes.

Safety Questions

I opened my E-Z POOL® container today (10 lb) and was over-whelmed by fumes. The color of the product was much greener than usual and slightly caked. I have 2 questions: 1. What gases are produced? 2. What’s going on?
WHEN THIS OCCURS, THERE IS A POSSIBLE CONTAMINATION OF E-Z POOL® CAUSING THE OXIDIZER TO ACTIVATE WHICH WILL PRODUCE A GAS. This can result from a few things:
- Wet scoop was put back in E-Z POOL® bucket.
- Bucket lid was not properly sealed after use.
- Humidity or moisture got into bucket.
Solution: Take outside (and leave outside). Product is still good. Just make sure to hold breath or cover nose and mouth when opening bucket.
-
I’ve had E-Z POOL® sitting in the back warehouse for around 4 years, and the lids are turning white and I can’t even walk to the back warehouse because the smell is so strong. Is the product is no good? Will it catch on “fire” or anything – and what should she do to get rid of it properly?
While it will still work if broken up, it is not as effective as fresh product. Take the buckets outside (not while raining) and have a service company that uses E-Z POOL® come pick it up to use. It won’t catch on fire. If you do not want to give it to a service company (as stated above) then call your local hazmat office and have them dispose of it properly.
-
I was just wondering if you can use the E-Z POOL® product with a pool that has a DE filter?
Yes, E-Z POOL® is compatible with all filter types, including DE.
-
My pool is mostly used by my clean Labrador Retriever, has there ever been problems with dogs and E-Z POOL® adversely affecting the dogs.
E-Z POOL® is safe for humans and dogs swimming when applied as directed.
